Hi there,
I have a question for you....could you tell me some reliable books
or
places to get info on the King's Peak hike? I want to hike it
this
coming year and would like to know more detail about it so I know
what
to plan for as far as foof/water, time, etc. By the way, earlier
this
year I emailed you to ask about the Lone Peak hike and the info
you gave
was very helpful. It was a wonderful hike and I plan on doing
that again
this year. If you could please help me out with any info on King's
Peak
I would appreciate it.
Thanks so much.

Danny,
The most important thing I would say about Kings Peak would be
footwear. I would bring tape for blisters, 3 or more pairs of
socks, a pair of good running shoes and maybe a pair of good fitting
sandals. Stop often to attend to any foot problems, and you won't
have problems. Switch shoes to the sandals or even flip-flops,
and you'll have less blisters.
No matter how strong your legs are, your feet will feel like
they were beat with a paddle for about 4 hours. Just look at
the people's faces coming back as you begin the hike.
On the way back, I put on two pairs of socks, and it helped
very much with my feet. Next time I will try 3 pairs of thin
socks.
We didn't even eat all the food we brought, but that's better
than not bringing enough. Remember to bring alot of sweets and
maybe even some soda pop and candy.
If you camp before dollar lake you can have a fire, and there
is plenty of wood, also it will make it so you don't have to
carry so much stuff so far, and you won't have to worry about
crowds and fighting for a camping spot.
Instead of Gunsight Pass, go up the scree, even if you go extremely
slow up the scree, you'll save about 2 hours one way.
There is plenty of spring water all year long, so just bring
a purifier.
We did it in two days but if you have enough food, you could
do it in 3 and not kick your butt so much. A few of my friends
have done it in one long brutal day, but they recommend against
it.
