Avalanche Paths
Snow Tunnels
I was up on Storm Mountain Island
a few days prior, and I noticed a huge snow tunnel up Stairs
Gulch across Big Cottonwood Canyon. I almost waited too long
to get up and check it out, there was only a fragment of the
tunnel left, but it was still worth the hike.
Below this one was a newly collapsed larger one,
I think I was looking at the one that fell earlier this week.
I bet this one caved in the next day.
I not exactly sure how much this ice bridge weighs, but if it collapsed
on me,
I would probably either get really hurt or possibly killed.
Very interesting, I wonder if this same spot forms these same tunnels
every year.
Here are two simiar views of the same area. The red lines are used
to orient yourself.
Look at the rocks on the left picture and try to match them up on
the right.
One of the most rugged (and deadly) canyons in the Wasatch.
